Privacy Policy
Effective June 9, 2026
Who we are
Runway 31, Inc. (“Runway 31”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller responsible for the personal information collected through the iamSafer mobile and web applications, the websites at iamsafer.app and runway31.com, and related services (together, the “Service”).
You can reach us about privacy at any time at hello@runway31.com.
A note for pilots
iamSafer helps pilots plan flights and conduct a structured, advisory pre-flight risk assessment. To do that well, it handles information about you, your aircraft, your flights, and your self-reported readiness to fly. This policy explains what we collect and why. iamSafer is an aid to your decision-making, not a substitute for it — see our Terms of Use.
Information we collect
Account and profile. When you create an account or sign in, we collect your email address, first and last name, optional phone number, and a password (stored only in hashed form). If you sign in with Google, we receive a unique identifier from Google to link your account.
Pilot profile and credentials. Information you provide, that we derive from your logbook, or that we obtain from official FAA sources (such as the FAA airman registry), including FAA certificate and medical-class details and expiry, ratings and endorsements, currency (e.g., flight review, instrument, type), total and recent flight hours, and your most recent flight date.
Aircraft. Aircraft you add or import, enriched with details we retrieve from the FAA aircraft registry and other third-party aircraft databases — tail number, make, model, type, performance characteristics, and equipment.
Flights, logbook, and crew. Flight plans and briefings (routes, airports, altitudes, times, fuel), logbook entries you create or import (including CSV exports from ForeFlight and other logbook providers such as Garmin Pilot and LogTen), and the names, emails, phone numbers, and roles of crew or passengers you choose to log. If you log information about another person, you are responsible for having a lawful basis to share it with us.
Health and readiness self-assessments. As part of the IAMSAFE-style risk assessment, you may provide self-reported information such as hours of sleep, stress level, fatigue, and outside pressure to complete a flight. We treat this readiness data as sensitive and use it only to power your risk assessment. We do not use it for advertising and do not sell it.
Location and flight-track data. Route coordinates, and — where you connect a tracking source — GPS flight tracks (position, altitude, ground speed, heading, and derived terrain/AGL). The apps do not continuously track your device location in the background.
Assistant conversations. The messages you exchange with the in-app AI flight assistant, which we store as part of your flight record.
Payments and subscriptions. When you subscribe, we store identifiers needed to manage your entitlement — for web billing, a payment-processor customer and subscription ID; for in-app purchases, the Apple transaction identifier and environment. We do not collect or store full payment-card numbers; those are handled by the payment processor or the App Store.
Automatically collected. Standard technical data such as IP address, device and browser type, app version, and usage and diagnostic logs, used for security, abuse prevention, and to operate and improve the Service.
How we use your information
- Provide the Service — plan flights, generate briefings, run your risk assessment, and maintain your logbook
- Create and secure your account and authenticate you
- Process subscriptions and manage entitlements
- Communicate with you about the Service, including transactional and account emails
- Maintain safety, prevent abuse, debug, and improve features
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use
We do not sell your personal information.
How the AI assistant uses your data
When you use the AI flight assistant or AI-generated suggestions (e.g., personal-minimums or logbook analysis), relevant flight, aircraft, and assessment data is sent to a third-party AI provider — currently Anthropic, and potentially others such as OpenAI — to generate a response.
Before sending, we strip out directly identifying information. We do not send your name, email address, or phone number to these providers; we send only the flight, aircraft, and readiness data needed to produce a result. The provider processes this data on our behalf to return results to you, and we do not permit your content to be used to train third-party models. Each provider processes data under its API terms — see, for example, anthropic.com/legal/privacy and openai.com/policies.
How we share information
We share personal information only with service providers who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run the Service. Each is bound by contract to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify. They include:
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers that store and serve the Service
- AI providers such as Anthropic and OpenAI — to power the AI flight assistant and AI-generated suggestions (without directly identifying information)
- Our payment processor (Stripe) and the Apple App Store — to process subscriptions and in-app purchases
- Customer.io — to send account and product emails
- Aviation flight-services and weather briefing providers — to request official route briefings and weather using your flight and aircraft details
- Flight-tracking and elevation data providers — to retrieve flight tracks and terrain data when you use those features
- Google — when you choose to sign in with Google
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or the public, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (with notice where required). We require any third party that receives user data from us to provide the same or equal protection of that data as this policy.
International transfers
We are based in the United States and process data there. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US and other countries where our providers operate, which may have different data-protection laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and the data associated with it for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, safety, accounting, and dispute-resolution needs. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required or permitted by law to retain it. Residual copies may persist in backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information or delete your information
- Export a copy of your information in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent (residents of the EU, UK, EEA, and Switzerland)
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, and limit the use of sensitive personal information (residents of California and certain other US states — we do not sell or share your personal information, and we use sensitive readiness data only to provide the Service)
You can edit much of your profile directly in the app, and you can request deletion of your account and data at any time from within the app or by emailing hello@runway31.com. We will respond within the time frames required by applicable law, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit, hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
iamSafer is intended for licensed pilots and student pilots and is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Effective” date above reflects the latest version. For material changes we will provide additional notice (for example, by email or in the app) where reasonably practicable.
